January 1, US sanctions more Russians over pipeline project
The White House is sanctioning two Russian individuals and a Russian vessel connected to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project under the Protecting Europe’s Energy Security Act (PEESA) of 2019.
“Today’s report is in line with the United States’ continuing opposition to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and the U.S. Government’s continued compliance with PEESA, as amended,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
The Biden administration has now sanctioned seven people and 16 entities for their involvement in the project.
Additionally, the White House announced sanctions on Russia over the poisoning of Alexey Navalny.
