  • House Oversight Chairman Comer investigates UNRWA’s ties to Hamas
  • U.S. requests for information on October 7 attacks ignored by UNRWA
  • Calls mount to ensure taxpayer funds aren’t supporting terrorism

House Oversight Chairman James Comer is digging into whether the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) blocked a U.S. probe into its alleged connections with Hamas.

This latest investigation follows claims that some UNRWA staff took part in the October 7 attacks in Israel.

Comer sent a letter to U.N. Secretary General António Guterres, seeking records after UNRWA failed to answer oversight calls from the U.S.

“Despite repeated U.S. oversight inquiries, UNRWA, either on its own or at the direction of UN Headquarters, has refused to provide necessary documentation related to its staff’s involvement in this atrocity,” Comer wrote.

He explained that U.S. officials have asked for documents about firing certain UNRWA workers connected to the attack, but UN staff have hidden key details.

“This is unacceptable, as the lack of transparency greatly undermines U.S. efforts to assess risk and obstructs the oversight responsibilities of Congress,” he said.

The U.S. sends massive funding to the UN, including for UNRWA.

Comer pointed out that President Trump cut off funds to UNRWA in 2025 over ongoing terrorism concerns, and now people question if any more taxpayer cash should go their way at all.

He warned, “Without full accountability, we cannot confirm that implicated individuals—regardless of whether UNRWA or the UN generally believes they are culpable—have been removed from their positions or that vetting mechanisms are in place to prevent future threats.”

Comer gave the UN a deadline of November 10 to turn over unredacted material on the staff involved.
