President Trump says America will build Trump-class battleships, the first of their kind since WWII. He promises these ships will be stronger than any before, calling them the backbone of his “Golden Fleet.”
NEW: President Trump announces that he approved a plan for the construction of two new battleships. He says they will be larger than ever and have “100x the power” of the Iowa-class battleships. The last battleship (USS Missouri) was built in 1944 decommissioned in 1992.

The Trump-class will start with two ships, led by the USS Defiant. They will hold missiles, hypersonic weapons, railguns, lasers, and cutting-edge AI systems. These ships aim to outpace and outgun anything on the seas.
“There’s never been anything like these ships,” Trump said. “These are the best in the world. They will be the fastest, the biggest, and by far 100x more powerful than any battleship ever built.”
The Golden Fleet includes a plan for up to 25 ships in total, with the first two set to begin construction right away. The new initiative also aims to boost America’s shipbuilding industry and workforce.
USS Defiant is expected to take 2.5 years to build and will be more than 800 feet long, moving over 30,000 tons of American steel. These ships will carry big crews and travel at over 30 knots.
Trump says these ships will restore America’s sea strength, inspired by the legends of the past like the Great White Fleet and the USS Missouri. Modern weapons will give the ships a new nuclear deterrent role.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “This is American industrial power returning. Generations of Americans will be grateful for it.”
President Trump says he is going to help design the new U.S. Navy Battleships because he is “a very aesthetic person.”

Trump says the Navy and American workers will partner on the design, focusing on both strength and style. Thousands of jobs will be created in modern shipyards, using U.S. steel and skill.
Navy Secretary John Phelan said, “Not only is the president’s idea a good one, it’s something the Navy desperately needs and now has a formal requirement for.”
He emphasized the Trump-class will serve as the fleet’s new flagship, featuring the most modern weapons for today’s threats.
Phelan added, “We are going to make battleships great again. The USS Defiant battleship will inspire awe and reverence for the American flag whenever it pulls into a foreign port.”
The new ships come as the Navy also builds up with smaller, fast warships for modern warfare.
