Wyatt’s Take

  • A year ago, the border was overwhelmed with illegal crossings.
  • Now, Border Patrol and officials report record lows under new leadership.
  • Key leaders say security and enforcement have reached historic highs.

The southern border saw chaos last year, but now officials call it the most secure it has ever been. Record numbers of illegal crossings have dropped as authorities put tough policies in place.

Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks said,

“Just one year ago, our border faced unprecedented chaos.”

He credited agents for reaching these milestones and driving down illegal crossings to record lows.

Under the Trump administration, agents caught about 73,329 people crossing illegally in ten months. The year before, in the final year of the Biden era, the number was 879,837.

Apprehensions averaged nearly 88,000 per month during Biden’s time. Under Trump, that number dropped to about 7,300 a month. That’s a 92 percent cut in crossings.

Homeland Security Secretary Krist Noem said,

“In record-time we have secured the border, taken the fight to cartels, and arrested thousands upon thousands of criminal illegal aliens.”

She added,

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are making America safe again… Though 2025 was historic, we won’t rest until the job is done.”

Chief Banks wrapped up his message by saying,

“During this holiday season, rest assured that our agents remain focused on protecting the homeland. The border is closed.”

It’s clear the focus on border enforcement brought big changes in just one year.
