  • Trump moves fast to keep tariffs in place
  • High Court asked to decide power between Congress and president
  • Tariffs remain for now while Supreme Court reviews case

President Trump has asked the Supreme Court to take up his tariff case quickly. His team wants the justices to decide by September 10 and hold arguments in early November if they agree to hear it.

The federal appeals court recently said Trump did not have the power to set tariffs by himself, but put that ruling on pause so an appeal could move forward. Congress, not the president, should be in charge of setting tariffs, according to the decision.

Trump told supporters,

“We’re going to be going to the Supreme [Court], … we think tomorrow, because we need an early decision. I mean, look [at] the financial fabric of our country. We’re a rich, incredible country right now, and we’re able to, you know, other countries use tariffs on us for years, and we never did.”

The appeals court’s hold means the tariffs still stand until at least October 14, giving the Supreme Court time to make a move. The outcome will decide who controls trade policy going forward.

Keep your ear to the ground—the fight for American jobs and power is still on in Washington. Stay tuned to see who wins out, Congress or the White House.
