The Trump administration is celebrating a major advance in the Alaska LNG project, calling it a key piece in America’s energy independence plan. Alaska LNG and BakerHughes are teaming up to build about an 807-mile gas pipeline, stretching from Prudhoe Bay down to the Kenai Peninsula.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright called the partnership a landmark for the country’s energy future. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum highlighted how U.S. natural gas is a strategic asset, helping to keep power cheap and reliable at home.

Burgum explained, “U.S. LNG is not just an energy source [but] a strategic asset that powers our economy.” This new pipeline is expected to create jobs and boost America’s standing as an energy leader worldwide.

BakerHughes chairman Lorenzo Simonelli said natural gas will deliver affordable and dependable energy, with less carbon than other fuels. The project also plans to capture up to seven million tons of carbon dioxide a year, showing a commitment to cleaner solutions.

Governor Mike Dunleavy said Alaska holds huge promise for oil, gas, wind, and tidal energy and wants to focus on what works for local workers. He noted you still need oil and gas to pay for hopeful green energy upgrades.

Dunleavy stated, “That basin in Cook Inlet is the most energy-rich basin on the planet: onshore wind, offshore wind, coalfields, oil, gas, tidal, geothermal — all right there.” The project aims to tap these resources while ensuring working people see real benefits now and in the future.
