  • Madison Sheahan leaves ICE to run for Congress in Ohio.
  • Sheahan pushes Trump’s border policies and challenges a longtime Democrat.
  • Ohio’s 9th District could flip as voters grow restless with old politics.

Madison Sheahan, the top deputy at ICE, just left her post to run for Congress in Ohio’s 9th District. She highlights her strong record on border enforcement and ties herself to Trump’s tough immigration playbook.

Sheahan’s taking on Marcy Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in Congress, who’s been in office since 1983. Even though Trump won most counties in the district, Kaptur narrowly hung onto her seat in 2024.

“In just one year, we’ve made history, recruiting 12,000 new ICE officers and agents, and deporting over 2.5 million illegal aliens. Ohio neighborhoods are safer thanks to President Trump and ICE,” Sheahan said.

Sheahan called out longtime politicians for being out of touch, saying, “For too long, Northwest Ohio has been represented by a career politician who has grown comfortable with the swamp and disconnected from the people back home.”

Kirsti Noem, now head of DHS, praised Sheahan’s leadership and commitment to “target, arrest, and deport criminal illegal aliens.” Noem called her a “terrific leader” with the grit to defend American values in Congress.

Though Sheahan doesn’t come from a law enforcement background, her record running Louisiana’s wildlife and fisheries department and moving up rapidly in GOP circles has turned heads. This race is now seen as a real shot for Republicans to flip the seat.

Kaptur’s shrinking support and the swing in the district mean working families could soon see new leadership focused on border security and affordability—issues close to home.
