  • Deputies say there’s recorded proof of the teacher making inappropriate calls to the student.

A substitute teacher from Cave City faces a serious charge after police say she used electronic messages to set up a meeting with a minor for illegal activity. Krystal Sims was arrested after an interview with a sheriff’s deputy and released on a $25,000 bond.

According to the deputy, Sims first met the teenager while teaching his class. The boy told police they started messaging on Snapchat, which led to talks about meeting up for sex.

On August 22, a recorded phone call caught a woman asking the student if he was coming to meet her. The conversation turned into a video call, where the deputy’s report says Sims was in the shower and exposed herself on camera.

During questioning, Sims admitted she was the woman on the call but claimed she only planned to meet so the boy could say sorry for his behavior in class. She told police she never met him in person and that nothing physical took place.

Sims will face her first court hearing on Wednesday.

Folks around here count on adults to look out for kids, not take advantage. It’s a shock to hear about a teacher behaving this way, and it brings up worries about who is working in our schools. Families want teachers they can trust with their children’s safety and well-being.
