January 1, Speaker Johnson Responds To MTG GOP Health Critique
Wyatt’s Take
- Speaker Johnson is stepping in after Marjorie Taylor Greene called out GOP inaction on healthcare costs.
- Greene wants Republicans to act before Obamacare subsidies expire, saying families can’t afford rising premiums.
- Johnson says the GOP is working hard and offered Greene a seat at the table to fix healthcare.
Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has been outspoken against her own party for not having a plan to address healthcare expenses.
With Obamacare subsidies set to run out, she warned that average Americans could get hit hard if Republicans don’t act soon.
Speaker Mike Johnson says he spoke with Greene last week to assure her that House Republicans are working nonstop to lower costs.
“I had a thoughtful conversation with her on the phone the other night,” Johnson said in a TV interview.
Greene posted, “Not a single Republican in leadership talked to us about this or has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums DOUBLING.”
She pointed out, “The issues of the subsidies are real. It’s not something that anybody can say is made up.” According to Greene, families she knows are paying large sums every month, and rates could jump higher.
Johnson pushed back, claiming, “Republicans have hundreds of ideas literally on the table” but blamed Democrats for holding up progress by not backing funding bills.
He said he invited Greene to join healthcare negotiations, adding, “Marjorie does not serve on those committees so I offered to have her come in the room and be a part of that discussion if indeed she wants to do that.”
Both sides recognize Americans face real struggles with healthcare bills, but gridlock remains in Congress.
Stay tuned as this fight over healthcare hits home for many families.

#1 – it isn’t the Democrats that are holding things up. The Democrats are a minority in Congress and cannot control anything.
#2 – MTG is absolutely correct about Americans needing subsidies to help pay for insurance premiums. According to many sources, our premiums for healthcare could more than DOUBLE! A family of 4 paying about $7,000 per year could see their insurance premiums increase to $18,000 a year. Who can afford that? The GOP needs to get its act together to help REGULAR people, not just give to those who are already wealthy.
