  • Authorities walked back earlier claims about capturing the suspect.
  • Campus community told to stay put while police investigate.

Brown University students were ordered to shelter in place following reports of a shooting near their campus. Police later reversed an earlier statement, saying the suspect is still on the loose.

President Trump shared on Truth Social,

“The Brown University Police reversed their previous statement — The suspect is NOT in custody.”

The university confirmed this update, emphasizing the need for everyone to stay sheltered as police search for the suspect. Rumors of another shooting nearby were dismissed by the school, which said those claims were unfounded.

Brown University described the moment in a statement:

“At 4:22 p.m., we alerted our campus to an active shooter incident near Barus & Holley Engineering. We informed our community to shelter in place by locking doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice. This remains an active crime scene, and law enforcement continues to search for the suspect. The situation is ongoing, and all members of the community should continue to shelter in place.”

Reports suggest two people have died and around twenty more might be hurt, according to senior law enforcement officials. The campus remains on high alert while authorities work the scene.

Stay alert and keep family close when situations like this hit close to home. Communities pull together, and staying aware keeps folks safe.
