Wyatt’s Take

  • Senate votes to reopen government after record 41-day shutdown
  • Federal workers may soon get backpay
  • Resolution heads to House, then President for approval

After over a month with the government doors closed, the Senate moved late Monday to get things running again until January. The 60-40 vote showed some Democrats crossing over with Republicans to get this through.

“After 41 long days, I’m glad that we finally have a clear path to ending this unnecessary shutdown in a responsible way that quickly pays federal workers and reopens the federal government,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune said in a post on X.

This bill would get federal workers their pay again and bring back those who were let go when all this started. It doesn’t bring back higher subsidies for Obamacare insurance, though.

Now it’s up to the House to say yes, before President Trump can sign it and put an end to the hardship. That vote could come as early as Wednesday.

The government hasn’t had a shutdown this long in American history, and many folks are hoping this means the end is finally in sight. Stay informed and keep an eye on how your lawmakers vote on issues that hit your pocket.
