January 1, Senate Democrats Split Over Shutdown Gamble
Wyatt’s Take
- Senate Democrats blocked a clean government funding bill, risking shutdown.
- Three Democrats voted with Republicans but the bill still fell short.
- Schumer digs in, pushing party division over basic funding needs.
Democrats in the Senate stopped a straightforward funding extension, putting the country on the edge of a government shutdown. While most Democrats went along with Senator Schumer, Sens. Fetterman, Cortez Masto, and King sided with Republicans for the good of working folks.
The bill didn’t pass, with 55 senators voting for it, short of the 60 needed. Senator Rand Paul joined Democrats in voting no, saying the spending plan didn’t cut enough waste. Schumer’s stance drew heat, sparking talk of a deep split in his own party.
Cortez Masto warned,
“[I] cannot support a costly government shutdown that would hurt Nevada families and hand even more power to this reckless administration.”
If Congress can’t agree, funding runs out at midnight Wednesday, hitting everything from vital food help for families to federal paychecks. The White House claims programs for low-income women and kids could expire on October 1. The Senate failed twice now to pass funding, with Democrats holding out for their list of demands.
Republicans called out Democrats’ double standard, reminding them they’d passed similar funding deals before. Senator John Barrasso hammered home Schumer’s own words from 2013,
“He said, ‘What if I persuaded my caucus to say, ‘I am going to shut the government down… unless I get my way?’ It’s a politics of idiocy. A shutdown is idiocy.’”
Still, Democrat leaders show little sign of budging, betting that the blame will fall on the GOP.
America’s hard-working families deserve better than politicians playing chicken with paychecks and kitchen-table programs. Stay informed and let your lawmakers hear your voice.
Wyatt Matters
When politicians refuse to work together, regular families pay the price. Middle America needs leaders focused on real solutions—not power games in Washington.

It would be a better America if all the legislature would support the country and it’s people instead of the disgusting democrats always trying to protect those who want to destroy this country. A few have spoje common sense but it is time for that party to wake up and stand up against those in their oarty who keep trying to undermine good policies. 😡

I support term limits and suggest it as a way of getting rid of the idiots in Congress. But we, the people, keep sending these idiots back and they’ll never support term limits. They’d be out of a job and have no real life skills. So it’s up to us to somehow vote them out.

When are the aging Dems like Schmuer and his cronies retire and fade away. Their time is up. It is time to put this country back on track which is what the Trump administration is trying to do. Government shutdown should hurt every Dem who allowed it to happen not the hard working Americans who did not agree to government shutdown

Only the brainwashed, prejudicd and ignorant will overlook the fact that the spending bill had only to be approved. Those voting “no” are the ones shutting down the government. That is the democrats

Chuck Schumer is still getting paid every cent of his salary though isn’t he. He feels just fine inflicting pain on everyone as long as he is comfy . How the hell do people of this ilk keep getting elected.

Time for people that have liberals in office across the Country to vote conservative to save the Country. 1.5 trillion dollars to continue paying for illegals healthcare, housing, food, schooling (with translators of course), phones, taxpayer insured house loans, continuing to pay for dead people on the rolls of MEDICARE/MEDICAID and social security, paying for all sorts of programs IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES, paying for news outlets that only favor liberal programs and viewpoints, sending money to NGO’s that end up sending a and more agood portion of that money to other NGO’s that fund political campaigns in the US, and more and more and more IS INSANE! We have never been able to and CANNOT continue to spend more money than the government takes in!
