January 1, Purdue Pharma, Sacklers Agree to $7.4B Opioid Settlement
Hey everyone, let’s talk about something important that’s happening with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. They’re in big trouble for their part in the opioid crisis. This is a serious problem that has hurt a lot of folks in America.
The Sackler family, who owned Purdue Pharma, made a deal to pay $7.4 billion because of all the harm their company caused by pushing dangerous drugs like OxyContin. At first, they tried to make a deal for $6 billion, but the Supreme Court said “no way” because the deal tried to protect them too much from being taken to court again.
Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said they’re holding Purdue and the Sacklers accountable for their actions that caused so much pain and hurt across the country. A lot of states, like New York and Texas, joined Connecticut in this fight.
Back in 2020, Purdue Pharma already admitted they broke the law and did some bad stuff like paying doctors to prescribe more of their drugs. They also worked with a company to get their opioids recommended more often.
If this new settlement goes through, the money will help a lot of different people, including those who were hurt by the crisis and some local governments. Also, the Sacklers won’t be allowed to sell opioids in the U.S. ever again, and they’ll have to give up control of Purdue to new managers. They won’t be able to market these dangerous drugs anymore.
Plus, they have to make a ton of documents public, so we know exactly what they were up to. It’s important that folks stay informed so we can prevent something like this from happening again.
This family, including Richard, Kathe, and others, is being held responsible for what they’ve done. Justice is important, and it’s good to see action being taken for all those who have suffered because of the opioid crisis.
Wyatt Matters!
The situation with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family is a big deal because they did some really bad things that hurt a lot of people. They made and sold a drug called OxyContin, which is very dangerous if not used carefully. Because of their actions, lots of people got addicted, and many families suffered. Now, they have to pay $7.4 billion as a way to help fix the damage they caused. This money will be used to help people who were hurt by this crisis, and that’s a step toward making things better.
What’s also happening is that the Sacklers won’t be able to sell these dangerous drugs in the U.S. anymore, and they’re giving up control of their company, Purdue Pharma. This means they can’t continue to hurt people with their business. Plus, making their secret documents public is really important. It will show everyone exactly how they were able to do this, and it helps make sure they can’t hide their bad actions anymore. Other companies can learn from this, too, and hopefully won’t try to do something similar in the future.
Justice is being served because the Sackler family is finally being held responsible. People like Attorney General William Tong from Connecticut and others from states like New York and Texas worked hard to make this happen. It’s good to see that when something really wrong happens, people take action to make it right. This crisis has caused so much pain, but now we see that there’s hope for change and healing. It teaches us all that being truthful and fair is really important.

How about the other big Pharma companies? When will they have to pay up? And in case you take gabapentin for pain,
you have a very good chance to develop dementia. That awful drug needs to be gone too.
