January 1, Packers Dominate Commanders Keep Win Streak Alive
Wyatt’s Take
- The Packers started their season 2-0 with a strong win over the Commanders.
- Green Bay’s defense was tough, forcing the Commanders off the field early and often.
- Jordan Love led the offense with sharp passing and key touchdowns.
The Green Bay Packers grabbed another big win, toppling the Washington Commanders 27-18 and moving to 2-0 on the season. Lambeau Field was packed with fans thrilled by another confident showing from head coach Matt LaFleur’s group.
The Commanders showed some spark in their first game, but struggled to move the ball as the Packers’ defense turned up the heat. Green Bay’s defenders held Washington in check for much of the night, especially keeping quarterback Jayden Daniels from escaping trouble.
“We had to play tough, stay in our gaps, and trust each other,” said a Packers linebacker after the game.
Green Bay made its mark early, with Jordan Love connecting on a quick slant to Romeo Doubs for a scoring drive that covered nearly the whole field. Tight end Tucker Kraft stood out, piling up 124 receiving yards and making a pivotal 57-yard grab.
Josh Jacobs kept his touchdown streak alive, punching it in for his tenth straight regular season game. As for the Commanders, kicker Matt Gay drilled a 51-yard field goal but missed two more, including a tough shot off the upright after halftime.
Daniels finally sparked some life for Washington in the fourth, hitting Zach Ertz for a 20-yard touchdown catch and run. But every time the Commanders made a move, Green Bay answered right back, with Love and Kraft teaming up again for another score.
Washington managed a late touchdown to Deebo Samuel and a two-point conversion, but they ran out of time before making it close.
Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns, with Jacobs leading the ground attack at 84 yards. The Commanders rushed for just 51 total yards, a sign of how much they struggled against Green Bay’s front.
