Wyatt’s Take

  • President Trump is standing up to insurance companies that have profited off Obamacare.
  • Health insurance firms have gotten rich while everyday Americans pay more and get less.
  • New bills in Congress aim to put power and money back in the hands of patients, not insurance giants.

President Trump is taking a stand against health insurance monopolies, calling out their huge profits at the expense of working people. “Let the money go not to the big fat cats and the insurance companies that made 1,700 percent over a short period of time,” he said.

“Let the money go directly to the people, where they can buy their own health care.”

Obamacare allowed big insurers to rake in billions, while normal folks face higher premiums and less care. More than 70 percent of metro areas are controlled by just one or two insurance giants, making it tough for families to find good options.

For example, UnitedHealth Group reported $113.2 billion in revenue last quarter, showing just how big and powerful these companies have become. Taxpayer money flows to insurers instead of directly to Americans in need, with pharmacy benefit managers also taking cuts and passing on higher costs to patients.

President Trump’s message is simple: Why does Washington keep sending money to insurance companies instead of helping patients directly?

He’s not alone. Senator Rick Scott from Florida has a bill to undo some of Obamacare’s damage and shift subsidies to real people. And Senator Bill Cassidy wants to cut back on overbilling in Medicare Advantage. Momentum is building to stop rewarding big insurance and finally put health care in the hands of regular Americans.

It’s time for lawmakers to end the gravy train and focus on patient care, not insurance company profits.
