January 1, Obama Center Push Sparks Chicago Housing Clash

Wyatt’s Take

  • Billionaires are buying up property near the new Obama Center to flip for wealthy buyers.
  • Local residents have unionized to fight displacement and skyrocketing rent increases in Woodlawn.
  • Chicago leadership has remained silent while working class families face eviction threats.

Residents at the Chaney Braggs Apartments say a $2,000 relocation offer is nowhere near enough. They fear their neighborhood is being dismantled for a political legacy.

“We’ve got such a long way to go in terms of economic development before you’re even going to start seeing the prospect of significant gentrification,” Barack Obama claimed back in 2018.

Despite those promises, pressure on housing has arrived much faster than the former president predicted. Mayor Brandon Johnson has not stepped in to protect these families from the billionaire buyer.

The residents say they have repeatedly reached out to local officials without getting a response. Many see a familiar pattern: ordinary families pay the price while elites talk about equity.

Middle America knows that your home is your castle, and no billionaire or political library should be allowed to steamroll a neighborhood for the sake of optics.

Regrettably, we have seen this scenario play out far too many times, nationwide. We lose older, smaller, naturally affordable housing units to redevelopment and gentrification, then wonder why there is a shortage of low-cost housing. we then mandate build, build, build, but since new construction is so expensive, the affordable housing we lost cannot be replaced without a heavy taxpayer subsidy.

We know what flows downhill and who resides there. The local Democrat Machine has determined any displacement is a small price to pay to celebrate this seminal event in American History.
It’s highly unlikely any form of protest will be allowed during the dedication this vainglorious ediface. Will be interesting to see if they allow SloJoe a chance to speak.

All the lies the demoncrats say the republicans do, is what they do! Obama’s library is a monstrosity! This guy has done nothing to help the people of Illinois. They are in worse peril now because of these demoncrat leaders. Vote them out and get good, decent legal citizens to make Illinois great again. Sickening what these politicians are doing to our American citizens! All the fraud, cheating, lying, corruption, crime, murders, robberies, carjacking while obama lives in a grated secure mansion in Washington DC!
