North Carolina Republicans plan to vote next week on a new U.S. House map. This effort could add another GOP seat in Congress for the 2026 elections.

Currently, Republicans hold 10 out of 14 seats after redrawing the map in 2023.

The new map may focus on the only competitive district, held by Democrat Don Davis.

One Republican statement said their plan “follows President Donald Trump’s call urging legislatures across the country to take action to nullify Democrat redistricting efforts.”

It has not been announced which day the vote will occur.

Other states are also battling over district lines. Texas adopted a map expected to add five Republican seats, while California is looking to offset those gains.

Utah’s legislature just approved its updated map following a judge’s order to redo it after lawmakers ignored redistricting safeguards. Missouri passed a map last month that may secure another Republican seat.
