Wyatt’s Take

  • A helpless dog was left tied to a fence in New Haven as a nor’easter battered the area.
  • The animal shelter says abandoned pets during storms are an ongoing concern.
  • Locals are urged to help identify those who mistreat animals like this.

A dog was found tied to a fence in New Haven, Connecticut, with heavy rain pouring down from a powerful nor’easter. The animal had no shelter during the storm and was left surrounded by muddy, soaked ground.

Officials at the Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter shared that this isn’t a rare case for their town. In a social media post, they said:

“This heartbreaking situation is, unfortunately, a recurring issue throughout our city of New Haven.”

The dog is now safe and being cared for at the shelter. The group is asking community members to come forward if they know who left the dog in harm’s way.

Officials also said:

“Together, we can help ensure the safety and well-being of animals in our community and hold those accountable for such blatant neglect.”

This isn’t the first time a dog has been abandoned during dangerous weather. Back in 2024, a dog in Florida was tied to a fence during Hurricane Milton but found a new home after the old owner was charged with animal cruelty.

If you see mistreatment, be the neighbor who speaks up.
