January 1, Nor’easter Could Bring Major Snow To I-95

Wyatt’s Take
- Snowstorm risk looms over millions near I-95 this weekend.
- Forecasters are uncertain on size and exact path.
- Folks in the Northeast urged to stay alert for changes.
A possible nor’easter could hit the Interstate 95 corridor from Sunday night into Monday. Cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia are all watching for potential heavy snow, but exact amounts are still unknown.
This week, several storms are moving from the West and hitting the Northeast, bringing rain and snow. The most worrisome system is set to move from Canada and across the United States, reaching the East Coast late this week.
Forecasters say this third storm may build into a coastal low-pressure system and become a big winter event for the Northeast. The current outlook has many folks bracing for another round of rough weather in what’s already been a tough winter.
Snow from past storms is still covering parts of the Northeast. More snow could be on the way, though some forecast models can’t agree yet with a few days to go.
Both American and European weather models show the chance for light snow Sunday night into Monday along the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and I-95. Some AI weather forecasts predict a much stronger snowstorm in about the same time window.
The storm’s strength will depend on how quickly it can build and where it ends up offshore. Everything from cold air moving in from Canada to how the storm hooks along the coast will determine just how hard areas get hit.
If certain factors don’t line up, the storm could fizzle out or go out to sea instead.
“While some snow appears to be the most likely outcome, all scenarios remain on the table, from a complete miss that tracks out to sea, to a major Nor’easter,” states the FOX Forecast Center.
More details should be clear as the weekend gets closer.
