Governor Gavin Newsom brushes aside questions about going head-to-head with Kamala Harris in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary. When pressed on the issue, Newsom insists, “That’s fate,” shrugging off any sign of rivalry.
Newsom explains, “I’ve never gotten in the way of her ambition, ever. I haven’t. And I don’t imagine I would in the future.”
The California leaders’ careers have run side by side, but Newsom claims “I’m San Francisco and she’s L.A., so there’s a little distance between the two of us.” He points out his focus is on what he can control, not on future hypotheticals.
Bash tries to pin him down on running against Harris, but Newsom repeats, “That’s fate… You only can control what you can control.” He says his memoir teaches to take responsibility for yourself and let the chips fall where they may.
Middle America knows politics is all about ambition, and the elites don’t always give straight answers when it comes to power.

Heartland voters understand that self-interest drives the decisions of those at the top. Regular folks want leaders who are honest about ambition and don’t dodge the truth when it matters most.
