January 1, Legendary Late Night Host Severely Burned in Car Fire
Former host of “The Tonight Show” Jay Leno has sustained “serious burns” from a car fire, but he’s now in stable condition.
“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet,” Leno told Variety in a statement.
Leno was hospitalized on Sunday after a fire erupted in his car garage in Los Angeles, TMZ reported. One of the cars burst into flames and left the legendary late-night host with burns on his face. Leno was transported to the Grossman Burn Center for treatment.
The comedian was scheduled to appear at The Financial Brand conference in Las Vegas on Sunday, but organizers informed attendees that he had canceled due to a “very serious medical emergency.” Details of Leno’s facial burns weren’t disclosed at the time.
“His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling,” an email to conference attendees read. “All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight.”
