January 1, Lakers Star Risks Suspension After Explosive Courtside Confrontation With Rival

Wyatt’s Take
- Luka Doncic says he may face a suspension after a heated game against Orlando.
- Doncic claims Goga Bitadze made a personal remark about his family.
- Bitadze denies the allegation and says he was only repeating insults back.
Lakers star Luka Doncic is fighting a league suspension after a heated on-court battle turned personal on Saturday night.
The confrontation with Orlando’s Goga Bitadze left Doncic with his sixteenth technical foul of the season.
The incident happened during a narrow one-point victory for Los Angeles, where tensions boiled over in the third quarter.
Doncic told reporters he hopes the league rescinds the foul so he can avoid missing time.
“Obviously, I let my team down getting that last tech. But honestly, I wasn’t trying to.”
“[Bitadze] said at the free throw, he would f— my whole family. And at some point, this is a basketball court. At some point, I just can’t stand it. I got to stand up for myself.”
The Magic center countered by saying he has deep respect for families and only responded to being insulted in his own language.
“He just said some inappropriate things in the Serbian language, which, I played in Serbia, I understand.”
“I don’t know if he knew I understood what he said. So, I just said it back.”
If the appeal fails, the Lakers will have to fight for their playoff position without their top playmaker for a game.
Wyatt Matters
In Middle America, standing up for family and keeping sportsmanship matters more than star power or excuses.

Like the old days 50 years ago when fans would go to the basketball games at Univ. of MD to watch coach Lefty Driesell argue with the referees and the fights…forget the game…These dudes keep the tradition alive in pro basketball…
