  • Family values and perseverance shine through in hard times

Kelly Clarkson returned to social media for the first time since her former husband Brandon Blackstock died.

She thanked fans for supporting her through 23 years after her “American Idol” victory, saying it changed her life.

“To everyone that took time 23 years ago to call in and vote for me, thank you.”

The singer wrote in her post.

“Winning American Idol changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years.”

She continued.

“It is a gift to find your purpose and passion, and to be able to make a living doing it is the cherry on top.”

“Thank you, always.”

This was Clarkson’s first post since Blackstock’s passing.

Brandon Blackstock died at 48 at home in Montana after battling melanoma, surrounded by loved ones.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.”

“He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Kelly had paused her Las Vegas shows, and it is still not certain whether she will return. Her tour page lists November dates, but there’s no update.

Her talk show is set to film its seventh season soon. The new season starts September 29, with anticipated stars stopping by.
