January 1, Justice Department Targets Obama Era Russiagate Officials
Wyatt’s Take
- The DOJ is digging into possible wrongdoing by top Obama-era officials for pushing the Trump-Russia narrative.
- New records show insiders warned not to trust some intelligence used against Trump.
- A strike force has been formed to take on the worst offenders and look for criminal charges.
The Department of Justice is turning up the heat on officials behind the so-called Russiagate saga, hunting for evidence that the Obama administration and its top intelligence bosses tried to set up Donald Trump after the 2016 election.
In a letter obtained by media sources, federal prosecutors demanded a slew of documents from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. They want to see everything tied to how the intelligence community framed Trump as a Russian agent in both 2016 and 2017. This request comes after the release of records showing key intelligence experts had already called out the Trump-Russia claims as shaky and misleading.
The released documents show figures like James Comey, John Brennan, and James Clapper still pushed their storyline—despite knowing there were holes in the so-called proof. Some insiders even told Brennan he was ignoring the facts just to damage Trump during his transition period and presidency.
Reports have revealed a federal grand jury is now weighing whether these former officials broke the law while trying to paint Trump as colluding with Russia. The Justice Department’s letter, sent on behalf of the Attorney General, lays out twelve categories of documents it wants in its review of former DNI Tulsi Gabbard’s criminal referral about the fiasco.
One excerpt from the DOJ letter reads, “Pursuant to the authority and director of the United States Attorney General, I have been assigned responsibility for investigating this criminal referral.” The department seeks everything from whistleblower complaints about Brennan, Clapper, and Comey, to memos exposing the false intelligence claims. It even wants to know who exactly was cited in these explosive documents and whistleblower records.
The probe also is looking closely at whether insiders leaked information about the intelligence assessment to the media—and whether those leaks broke the law. According to the letter, prosecutors are pressing for any investigation records tied to these leaks.
On July 23, the DOJ pulled together a “strike force”—an interagency team usually used to hunt down organized crime or big fraudsters. Their mission? Pursue possible crimes committed by Obama-era officials and their helpers in the effort to undermine Trump’s win and damage his presidency. As their press release said, the strike force is here to “assess the evidence publicized by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and investigate potential next legal steps.”
With a grand jury convened and this aggressive new task force, the Justice Department is sending the message that no official—no matter how connected—should expect a free pass for using government power against political opponents.
Wyatt Matters
Folks in middle America know justice should be blind, even when it comes to the folks running the show in Washington. This story cuts right to the heart of what matters most: holding elite insiders to the same laws as everyone else. It’s about honesty, accountability, and making sure government works for the people—not the other way around.
