A new report shows that Donald Trump’s former Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, was the sole reason Ivanka Trump didn’t receive a nomination from her father to lead the World Bank.

The Intercept cited two anonymous sources who confirmed that the appointment “came incredibly close to happening” in Jan. 2019, when Jim Yong Kim resigned.

In April 2019, Trump told The Atlantic: “I even thought of Ivanka for the World Bank … she would’ve been great at that because she’s very good with numbers.”

According to Scott Morris, director of the US development policy program at the Center for Global Development, “a growing number of countries” are displeased that the US always picks the leader of the World Bank.

“For them to hear how close it was to being the US president’s daughter probably adds fuel to the fire that the Americans are so cavalier about this,” Morris said.
