Wyatt’s Take

  • ICE is stepping up arrests of illegal immigrants with violent criminal records.
  • Many people arrested were convicted of crimes against children.
  • A new push under Trump aims to keep communities safer from repeat offenders.

While protesters hold up signs and shout, ICE keeps doing the tough job of getting dangerous criminals off our streets. This week’s sweep grabbed illegal immigrants convicted of child abuse and sexual crimes.

“Yesterday, our law enforcement arrested monsters who sexually abused and raped children. These are the type of sickos we are getting OUT of our neighborhoods,”

said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

Some of those arrested include Leonel Antonio Carranza Nunez from Mexico, found guilty of abusing a child in California. There’s Wilman Rodas-Argueta from Honduras, convicted of exploiting a minor in North Carolina. Lazaro Sebastian Chiroy-Ticum, a Guatemalan national, was busted for assaulting a minor in Texas. Nerlin Jhonatan Perez-Amaya, another Honduran, was caught for illegal sexual communication in Colorado.

Last fall, DHS reported over 435,000 criminal illegal immigrants not in custody, with about 29,000 convicted for murder or sexual assault. Recent updates show that ICE arrested another 10,000 criminal illegal aliens, but that’s just a small part of the problem.

CBS News aired that 73,000 illegal immigrants are now in custody—the highest count yet, doubling since 2025. The Trump administration is making progress in reversing Biden-era surges, focusing on getting lawbreakers out of the country.

McLaughlin says, about 70 percent of those caught in Trump’s first year at ICE had criminal records or active charges, sometimes linked to terrorism. Media outlets complain that some picked up have “no criminal record,” but every illegal border crosser broke the law as soon as they entered.

McLaughlin added, “Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, ICE now has historic funding to secure enough detention capacity to maintain an average daily population of 100,000 illegal aliens and 80,000 new ICE beds.”

She made it clear that violent offenders won’t be allowed to hurt children or law-abiding Americans. “If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and remove you from our country,” she promised.

Stay alert and keep speaking up for strong borders and hometown safety.
