  • ICE agent Jonathan Ross says he shot in self-defense after being hit by a protester’s SUV.
  • Officials defend the officer, but city leaders and protesters question the force used.
  • The case has set off a storm over law enforcement and immigration policy in Middle America.

Federal officials say Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross shot protester Renee Nicole Good after she drove her SUV at him during an immigration operation in Minneapolis.

Ross, a 10-year ICE veteran, suffered internal bleeding and was treated at the hospital before being released.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated,

“He went to the hospital. A doctor did treat him. He has been released, but he’s going to spend some time with his family.”

Officials pointed out that this isn’t the first time Ross has been hurt on the job. Last summer, he was dragged by a car during another arrest in Minneapolis and needed 33 stitches.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey downplayed Ross’s injuries, saying,

“The ICE agent walked away with a hip injury that he might as well have gotten from closing a refrigerator door with his hips. Give me a break. No, he was not ran over. He walked out of there with a hop in his step.”

Authorities say Good’s wife encouraged her to flee as officers demanded she exit the vehicle, captured on video from the scene.

ICE policy allows deadly force only if officers face an immediate threat. Ross and others insist he acted to protect himself.

Renee Good was a mother of three and active in local “ICE Watch” efforts, recently moving her family to Minneapolis.

Senator JD Vance criticized the media, posting,

“What the press has done in lying about this innocent law enforcement officer is disgusting. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.”
