  • A Democrat congressman says he was attacked at a Sundance party.
  • The suspect made racist threats and was arrested on the spot.
  • Some people question the congressman’s story, remembering past hoaxes.

Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Democrat from Florida, says he was punched in the face at a Hollywood party after a man threatened to have President Trump deport him.

The congressman shared that the attacker shouted racist comments before running away. Security and police quickly responded. The man was arrested.

“Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face. He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off,” Frost wrote in a social media post.

Police named the suspect as Christian Young. They said Young got into the party by jumping a fence and using a pass that belonged to someone else. He allegedly assaulted Frost and a woman at the event.

Reports say Young couldn’t remember what happened when the police found him. Officers say he denied knowing his own name even as he answered to it. He now faces charges including assault and aggravated burglary.

Some are uneasy with the story, bringing up the Jussie Smollett case from 2019 when another claim of a hate crime fell apart. Many online comments have called Frost’s story into question.

Witnesses told local news that they heard Young say, “we are going to deport you and your kind,” to Frost. They also say he made similar threats to a woman with the congressman.
