January 1, Heroic Coast Guard Rescue Saves 165 in Texas
Hey folks! Let me tell you about a real American hero we can all be proud of. His name is Scott Ruskin. He’s a Petty Officer and Rescue Swimmer for the United States Coast Guard. Scott did something amazing this past Saturday. He helped save 165 people from the flash floods in central Texas. Can you believe that?
Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, talked about Scott’s bravery. It was his first rescue mission, and he was the only one in charge of making sure everyone got the help they needed. Just imagine the courage it took for him to do that! She called him an American hero, and we agree with her!
What Scott did is a huge deal. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers have to go through some tough training. It’s not easy to become one. They do intense physical training and learn all sorts of rescue techniques. Most people can’t even finish this training because it’s so hard. They have to be the best because when there’s trouble, Americans need to trust that they can save lives.
Since 1984, these rescue swimmers have been saving lives, even back during Hurricane Katrina. They are part of what makes America strong and resilient.
Let’s tip our hats to Scott and the brave men and women of the Coast Guard who put everything on the line to keep us safe. This is the true spirit of America.

These swimmers have to be strong and know many rescue techniques to save lives when danger strikes. Scott is one of the best, and he proved it during the flash floods. It’s comforting to know we have people like him ready to help whenever there’s trouble.
The bravery of Rescue Swimmers like Scott is a big reason why the Coast Guard has been saving lives since 1984, even during big events like Hurricane Katrina. They show us what it means to be strong and dedicated to helping others. We should be thankful for people like Scott and the Coast Guard who protect us. Their hard work and courage are what make America a better place.
