In a shocking incident, a fire erupted at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, leaving at least ten people wounded, as told by officials.

Terminal 8 was the center of chaos and confusion as plumes of smoke began permeating the area around 7:00 a.m., according to reports from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) to the New York Post.

Surprisingly, the origin of the flames seemed to be an escalator, but to date, the cause of the destructive fire remains a subject of investigation.

Amongst the ten victims of this unexpected disaster, four had to be rushed to the hospital suffering from minor injuries, as informed by officials to the news outlet.

The chaos forced an evacuation of approximately 1,000 passengers, with video footage posted on the Citizen app revealing stranded travelers waiting anxiously on the tarmac as emergency services battled to bring the flames under control.

Firefighters stationed at JFK Airport’s Terminal 8 managed to quell the flames, but not before EMS staff had to tend to seven casualties.

As of now, the fire has been successfully extinguished and normal operations at the airport have resumed. Despite this, the incident has left many travelers shaken and has raised questions about the safety measures in place at one of the busiest airports in the world.
