Wyatt’s Take

  • The FDA approved a generic mifepristone even as safety concerns grow.
  • Evita Solutions, the new maker, openly pushes to ‘normalize abortion’ for all Americans.
  • Pro-life voices warn the drug brings serious risks to women and the unborn.

A new generic abortion pill is hitting the market after federal approval. The FDA’s green light comes as health officials say they’re reviewing whether to keep mifepristone available nationwide.

Evita Solutions, the company behind this version, says it wants abortion to be widely accepted and easy to get. Its website calls mifepristone “an effective, safe way to terminate early pregnancy,” even though evidence points to risks for women.

The approval means women can now access a potentially cheaper chemical abortion option. Both the new pill from Evita and the old brand, Mifeprex, will have the same labels per government policy.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told the Senate they are looking at “new data” on the drug.

“We know that during the Biden administration, they actually twisted the data to bury one of the safety signals with a very high safety signal, around 11 percent,” Kennedy added.

A joint letter from Kennedy and the FDA promised a fresh review of “real-world outcomes and evidence.”

In recent years, the government watered down old safeguards for chemical abortion. During the Obama and Biden years, the FDA made it easier to get abortion pills, loosened rules for clinics, and stopped tracking most non-fatal complications.

Now, thanks to the generic approval, even more pills could arrive by mail or appear in big chain pharmacies. Pro-life doctors spent years urging the FDA to stop approving and expanding chemical abortion, but federal officials repeatedly refused and changed rules instead.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America, called the FDA’s move “unconscionable.”

“These dangerous drugs take the lives of unborn children, place women and underage girls at serious risk, empower abusers, and trample the pro-life laws enacted by states across the nation,” she said.

Recent studies show the rate of serious problems after taking these drugs is far higher than drug companies claim. Still, abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and many Democrats defend the pills and celebrate their wider use.

The Supreme Court avoided a major case concerning the Biden administration’s abortion pill rules, but another challenge may reach them soon.

The FDA claims its hands are tied on approving generics if a company proves the drug matches the original, but a growing body of research warns these pills are anything but harmless.

The debate over mifepristone goes beyond politics. For American families, it speaks to the value we place on life, community, and protecting the vulnerable.
