January 1, Eagles Stir Brawl With Late Two-Point Call
Wyatt’s Take
- Eagles coach defends a gutsy late-game call.
- Tempers flare as Commanders and Eagles clash, leading to ejections.
- Rivalry heats up with more showdowns ahead.
The Eagles made a bold choice to go for two late in their win over the Commanders. The play put them up by 19 thanks to Saquon Barkley’s run.
This move kicked off a major fight between both teams. Three players were tossed from the field after things got heated.
The coach, Nick Sirianni, stood by his decision, saying it was about staying ahead by a comfortable margin, not running up the score.
“We wanted to make sure we went up that way, just in case. That was what our math told us in that particular case,” Sirianni said. “It’s a division game. It’s always back-and-forth. … That’s the team we played in the NFC championship game last year. I know how badly they wanted to beat us.
“I know how badly we wanted to beat them. We’ve always got to keep our cool in moments like that. But that’s NFC East football. … They’ve got tough guys. We’ve got tough guys.”
Commanders coach Dan Quinn didn’t like the call and hinted at payback for their next meeting.
“If that’s how they want to get down, all good,” Quinn said. “We’ll play them again in two weeks.”
Wide receiver Terry McLaurin saw both sides and understood the move but warned of dangers when tempers run high.
“Eagles vs. Commanders, man. That’s how it goes. … There’s a lot of history, obviously. They were beating us. They’re not going to throw in the towel. They’re not going to take it easy on us. They were going for 2 to bury us. As a team, it’s not like you’re going to tell them, ‘Don’t go for 2.’ We have to stop them,” McLaurin said. “I don’t really take any bad blood from what they did, but you don’t want to see the game get out of hand and guys possibly getting hurt. It comes with this rivalry between us and them. I don’t think that will ever change, to be honest.”
This game showed just how tough NFC East competition can be. Fans should buckle up for another showdown on January 4.

The NFL Commissioner should look at some of the poor officiating in many of these games? For instance, a holding call in that game, against The Commanders, showed a lineman for Washington blocking with his hands closed and facing himself? It’s hard to hold anyone with your hands in a fist! No jersey material is grabbed in a closed hand. There’s a difference between being helped to loose a game, than to loosing because of your own faults?

Did you see the non-call PI on Patriots receiver. Probably the worst non-call I’ve ever seen! I had to watch the replays to make sure I saw what I saw that the refs didn’t see when it was right in front of them! You’d have thought there was skullduggery involved!🤔
