Wyatt’s Take

  • Dr. Phil blasts attacks on Sydney Sweeney’s jeans ad.
  • He calls out comparing the ad to tragic historical events.
  • Stands up for Sweeney’s right to her beliefs and career.

Dr. Phil isn’t afraid to speak up when things get out of hand in the culture wars. On “Real Time” Friday, he took strong issue with critics of Sydney Sweeney’s “Great Jeans” ad for American Eagle, calling the outrage “ridiculous.”

Some compared the ad to one of the world’s darkest moments, which Dr. Phil slammed as a “absolute insult” to the memory of millions killed.

“For people to go crazy over that ad … and for them to say that’s the equivalent of the Holocaust, that this is the same as all of that, is an absolute insult. Six million people were killed, six million. Jews were massacred and murdered, and they equate that to a blue jeans ad for a Hollywood actress? What an insult.”

He wasn’t finished. Dr. Phil pledged to buy every woman in his family a pair of the same jeans to show his support for Sweeney.

Bill Maher, the host of the show, also pointed out that the press treated Sweeney being “exposed” as a Republican as a big scandal, which he argued shouldn’t be the case in America.

“It is not a slur that someone is a Republican.”

Dr. Phil added that while Hollywood might act like being a Republican is a bad thing, in the Midwest, it’s not an insult at all. No matter where you live, being called a Republican or a Democrat shouldn’t be seen as offensive.

Some critics have gone so far as to call Sweeney’s ad a sign of “White supremacy,” but Dr. Phil’s response shows how out of touch these attacks are with regular folks’ values.

Standing up for common sense and fair treatment, Dr. Phil made it clear he won’t be bullied by social media outrage or people trying to make controversy where there shouldn’t be any.

Don’t let the loudest voices online drown out working people’s sense of right and wrong. If you’re tired of seeing attacks on folks for their beliefs or career choices, stay tuned and make your voice heard.
