A federal judge instructed a phone company not to tell Senator Ted Cruz that his records were being subpoenaed by Jack Smith, the Biden administration’s special counsel. In his order, Judge Boasberg claimed—without any evidence—that letting Cruz know could bring about felonies and threaten Smith’s political investigation.

This judge’s decision lets the Justice Department chase GOP lawmakers and their supporters with secret subpoenas. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan are facing pressure to impeach Boasberg for abusing his power the same way Democrats once went after President Trump.

Recent disclosures reveal this is much bigger than just Senator Cruz. Bank records, including those from Citizens United, were secretly taken just after Trump announced his 2024 presidential campaign. In total, nearly 200 subpoenas hit 430 Republicans and allied groups—while nobody told those being targeted what was happening behind the scenes.

One memo shows the FBI and Justice Department fast-tracked a probe—called Arctic Frost—right as Citizens United premiered a documentary questioning the 2020 election. These efforts look like a warning shot to anyone backing Trump or asking tough questions about election integrity.
