January 1, Cuomo Slams Federal Government Over NY Migrant Crisis

Published

on

Former Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo recently took the federal government to task over the state’s escalating migrant crisis, branding it the “worst government blunder.” Speaking to congregants at the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Bronx, Cuomo reflected on the current state of the country’s politics, expressing concern over the “division” and “corruption” plaguing the nation.

“Look at what’s happening in the Middle East. You would say, look at our politics today. Look at the division that we have, look how dirty politics has gotten, how corrupt it has gotten, how mean spirited it’s gotten. Looking at the polarization, you have a far left and you have a far right and they can’t figure out how to come together and get things done,” Cuomo stated.

Turning his attention to the state of New York, Cuomo highlighted the state’s “migrant problem,” describing it as the worst “blunder” he has witnessed from the government in his “entire life.” He pointed out that the issue begins with the federal government’s leadership, as migrants continue to be transported into the city from border states such as Texas.

“Look at New York. Look at the homeless problem. Look at the crime problem. Look at what’s going on in the subways. That’s what he [Mario Cuomo] would say. And then on top of it all, we now have a migrant problem,” Cuomo continued. “Because I’ve been in and out of government all my life. I served in the federal government with Bill Clinton. I’ve worked with David Dinkins attorney general, governor. This is the worst government blunder I have seen in my entire life!”

Cuomo criticized the federal government’s approach to the border crisis, stating, “You have the federal government, which is where it starts, it’s standing at the border with a sign that says, ‘Come to the United States of America and claim asylum.’ And two million people come. Of course, from Venezuela, Honduras, and Guatemala. They get to the border and they say, ‘Where do you want to go?’ And they say, ‘I want to go to New York.’ What are they going to say? I want to go to Nevada?”

He further questioned the decision to limit the migrants to New York City, “They get to New York — New York state says to them, ‘You can only go to New York City.’ Only New York City. Not the Hudson Valley, not upstate New York, not Long Island — only New York City. Why?” Cuomo asked. “Because politically for their politics, they want the problem in New York City and they don’t want the political problem in the rest of the state. But it makes no sense. Now New York City has over 100,000 migrants who have come to the city. And New York City has to provide the housing, the education, and the medical care. It makes no sense.”

New York City, a sanctuary city, has seen a significant influx of migrants, with estimated numbers exceeding 150,000 in December 2023, less than two years since the crisis began. The city has struggled to accommodate everyone, as reported by the New York Times. Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently stated that the city needed to “modify” their sanctuary law to allow authorities to deport illegal immigrants who commit a felony or violent act.

In response to the crisis, the state, under Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, announced in January that it would be allocating more than $2 billion from New York’s budget to help manage NYC’s migrant crisis. This comes as Mayor Adams continues to plea for federal government assistance.

Why It Matters (op-ed)

Cuomo’s criticism of the federal government’s handling of the migrant crisis is a rare moment of clarity from a Democrat. The disastrous open-border policies have brought crime, homelessness, and overwhelmed public services to New York City.

The decision to concentrate migrants in NYC is a political ploy, sacrificing the city’s well-being for the benefit of the Democratic Party. The state’s $2 billion “solution” is a taxpayer-funded band-aid, as Mayor Adams begs for federal aid.

It’s time for real change, not just modifying sanctuary laws. We need strong borders, effective immigration policies, and leaders who prioritize the safety and prosperity of American citizens.

More points that the current administration doesn’t care about the people of this country. Its also another point that liberalism is a failed ethos. Sanctuary cities and states brought on their on problems which is also caused by liberalism. Our current administration is corrupt, inept and a failure causing the U.S. to be a weak laughing stock of the world. The so called president is letting our enemies run all over us, he is aiding them also which is treason.

The democrats will use US Constitution Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 (Census) and 14th Amendment, Section 2 to count “…whole number of persons in each State…” and include ILLEGAL aliens, thus changing the balance of Congressional seats further to blue States with large illegal populations. We need to resurrect the other phrase in that Section “…excluding Indians not taxed…” because that conveys Congress’ intent to not allow Congressional representation for NON-CITIZENS.

this, from the pubic serpent, that was removed from office, NOT for killing thousands of people, but for touching women (that demon-rats claim to support) inappropriately. Typical catholic. “neither were they grateful”.

New York supported Biden and his policies, even to proclaiming New York City a “Sanctuary” city. Well now they got it – live with it. It cost money to be a Democrat with such idiots calling the shots. They never thought past the millions getting there. What to do with them was someone elses problem. What are those thousands going to do when the free money runs out? Probably riot and turn to crime. How to handle that with a defund the police program in effect? Arm the good guys to shoot the bad ones? Which are which?
