Wyatt’s Take

  • Rep. Jasmine Crockett has a strong lead in the Texas Democratic Senate primary poll.
  • The FCC is investigating TV airtime rules after Crockett’s and Talarico’s appearances.
  • Crockett faces criticism for false claims and undisclosed stock holdings.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett is ahead in the Texas Democratic Senate primary, pulling 47% support in a recent University of Houston poll. Her main rival, James Talarico, trails at 39%, with Ahmad Hassan at just 2%.

Crockett is well-liked among Democrats, with 84% giving her a favorable rating. Nearly all surveyed say they know who she is.

In the general voter pool, Crockett’s 45% favorability is a bit higher than Talarico’s. Still, she has a higher unfavorable rating too, and GOP figures are more well-known overall.

The FCC is looking at The View for possible airtime rule violations, since both Crockett and Talarico recently appeared but did not get equal time. FCC rules say all legal candidates need comparable coverage.

Crockett is outspoken against Donald Trump and the MAGA faction. She blames them for political violence, claiming:

“It is MAGA. It is the specifically MAGA faction responsible for all political violence.”

She thinks some Republicans may support her due to her authenticity.

“What they want is somebody that they know who they are,”

She said, mentioning Republican voters who pledged to back her if the GOP nominee is not to their liking.

“They know that I know the issues. They know that I know how to work across the aisle when necessary. And they also know that I don’t take any mess.”

Talking about crime and poverty, Crockett said on a podcast:

“There are crimes that are committed, not because people are criminals, but because they literally are trying to survive.”

She pointed to Dallas officials not charging for food or diaper theft, linking poverty to certain offenses.

During a House debate, Crockett wrongly claimed EPA head Lee Zeldin took money from convicted felon Jeffrey Epstein. The donor was actually a different man with the same name.

“Yes Crockett, a physician named Dr. Jeffrey Epstein (who is a totally different person than the other Jeffrey Epstein) donated to a prior campaign of mine. NO FREAKIN RELATION, YOU GENIUS!”

Crockett has not corrected the mistake publicly.

Records show Crockett once owned stock in areas like pharma, cannabis, and oil as she entered politics. She supported cannabis legalization while holding related business interests, arguing for both recreational and medical use.

Crockett says Democrats need clearer messages and pointed to her social media following as a sign of leadership ability. She later dropped out of a House leadership race after getting the fewest caucus votes, saying her style didn’t fit what others wanted.

Recently, Rep. Lisa McClain posted images of Crockett using a police escort to bypass an airport security line, including passing individuals with disabilities. Crockett has not addressed the story.
