Wyatt’s Take

  • General Stephen Whiting is sounding the alarm about Russia potentially putting nuclear weapons in space.
  • A nuclear blast in orbit could wipe out GPS, cell service, and banking systems.
  • Russia may be willing to violate international treaties to gain a space advantage.

Whiting says Russia is looking for novel ways to neutralize our capabilities. They know they cannot beat us in a fair fight, so they want to break our tools.

“That would violate the Outer Space Treaty that they’re a party to, and it would hold at risk everyone’s satellites in low Earth orbit, and that would be an outcome that we just couldn’t tolerate.”

The General points out that most Americans don’t realize how much they rely on space until it stops working.

Every time you pull out a smartphone, you are using a satellite.

“The average citizen around the world probably doesn’t think about how space enables their life every day, but if they carry a smartphone in their pocket, they are leveraging space multiple times a day.”

Russia is already causing trouble in Eastern Europe by jamming signals.

This puts families on holiday and business travelers at risk by messing with cockpit navigation.

“When we put at risk civilian airliners full of citizens just trying to go on business or holiday, that’s incredibly problematic.”

The Kremlin believes that by taking away our tech, they can win a war on the ground.

We must ensure our infrastructure is protected from these orbital threats.

Middle Americans rely on GPS for farming, trucking, and getting families to work safely.

If the elites let Russia blind our satellites, our Heartland economy and basic safety will be the first things to crumble.
