CNN Ratings Plummet 80%
CNN kicked off 2022 with a sharp 80% drop in viewership.
The network averaged 548,000 viewers during the week of January 3, a dramatic decrease from the 2.7 million it averaged over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, both Fox News and MSNBC recorded significantly higher viewership than CNN, averaging 1,408,000 and 746,000 viewers, respectively.
Fox News leads in the coveted 25-to-54 age demographic, averaging 223,000. CNN averaged just 113,000 in that group, while MSNBC averaged only 88,000.
CNN’s decline in viewership follows numerous scandals. The network fired Chris Cuomo, one of the its most promoted and well-known anchors, last month following allegations of sexual misconduct and his role in advising his brother — former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) — when he faced similar allegations.
The network also fired John Griffin, a senior producer who worked with Cuomo, after he was arrested on charges of sexually abusing minors.
Rick Saleeby, a former senior producer for Jake Tapper’s The Lead, resigned after Project Veritas published a report alleging that he had solicited nude photos of a 15-year-old girl.
Officials from the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia confirmed that Saleeby is under investigation for “serious allegations involving potential juvenile victims.”
