January 1, Blue Cities Suffer Most Under Crime Surge
Wyatt’s Take
- Most high-crime cities are run by Democrats.
- Supposed jabs at Republicans often backfire with facts.
- Local leadership shapes safety more than state or party labels.
California’s governor tried to attack conservatives by pointing out crime in red states, but the numbers tell a different story. Out of the 20 worst cities for homicides, 14 are located in blue or purple states, and almost all have been under Democratic control for years.
Local policy matters more than state lines. Even in red states, the cities with the most crime have Democratic mayors or have for decades. Cities like St. Louis, Atlanta, and New Orleans haven’t had a Republican mayor since before most folks were born.
The numbers in Indianapolis make the difference plain. Since Democrats took over the mayor’s office in 2017, murders have gone from about 120 a year to over 200. Dallas switched parties just recently—Mayor Johnson, once a Democrat, says law and order and conservative spending are the only way forward.
“Your public safety as a resident is dramatically impacted by your district attorney, by your police department, and by whether the local politicians support and adequately fund the police and prosecutor’s offices,” a 2022 Heritage Foundation report explains.
When law enforcement is weak, prosecutors look the other way, and politicians keep protecting their grip on power, crime festers—no matter which state these cities are in. That’s what we see in city’s coast-to-coast.
“The future of America’s great urban centers depends on the willingness of the nation’s mayors to champion law and order and practice fiscal conservatism. Our cities desperately need the genuine commitment to these principles (as opposed to the inconsistent, poll-driven commitment of many Democrats) that has long been a defining characteristic of the GOP.”

Wyatt Matters
Tough, honest leadership is what keeps communities safe and families strong. When local officials put politics ahead of real protection, working folks are the ones who pay the price. The fight for law and order starts right here at home.
