January 1, Biden administration describes talks with Taliban as ‘candid and professional’
The Biden administration held its first face-to-face meeting with Taliban leaders since the US troop withdrawal in August, which an official described as “candid and professional.”
“The discussions were candid and professional with the US delegation reiterating that the Taliban will be judged on its actions, not only its words,” said Ned Price, a State Department spokesperson.
Price did not indicate if the sides had reached any agreements.
A spokesperson for the Taliban said the country’s new leaders are committed to ensuring that terrorism does not take root in Afghanistan again.
