January 1, Amazon Saver Takes Aim at Walmart and Target in Grocery Price War
The battle for your grocery dollars is heating up, and this time, Amazon is stepping up to challenge the traditional heavyweights. The tech giant, already a dominant force in online retail, is now poised to shake up the grocery market even further. With Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh already under its belt, Amazon is introducing a new player: Amazon Saver. This budget-friendly brand aims to take on popular bargain brands like Walmart’s Great Value and Target’s Good & Gather.
Amazon Saver was officially unveiled on September 10, with a promise to stretch your grocery budget like never before. The brand will feature a broad range of essential grocery items, all priced at $5 or less. Amazon Fresh storefronts and the online platform will soon be stocked with everything from crackers and canned veggies to pancake syrup and deli meats. And if you’re a Prime member, you’ll receive an extra 10 percent off these already low prices.
Claire Peters, Amazon Fresh’s worldwide vice president, emphasized the company’s commitment to offering the best value across its range of private-label brands. Peters stated, “We’ve just started to roll this new private label out with several products and will add more than 100 items to the Amazon Saver selection over time.”
But Amazon isn’t stopping there; they’re also revamping their Prime savings program to include discounts on over 3,000 grocery items. The most enticing part? A rotating selection of grocery favorites will be up to 50 percent off each week. This rotating list will encompass everything from fresh produce to pantry staples.
In addition, Prime members will benefit from 25 percent markdowns on 1,200 grocery items exclusive to Prime. There are also savings to be had on Amazon’s private-label brands, which include Aplenty, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Kitchen, 365 by Whole Foods Market, Happy Belly, and the new Amazon Saver. More than 1,700 private-label products will get a 10 percent discount.
“From fresh produce and proteins, frozen food to beverages, snacks, pastas, and more, Prime members can now save on even more grocery items from Amazon Fresh,” Peters noted.
To enhance the shopping experience, Amazon has updated its online storefront. New features like “repeat items” and “recurring reservations” aim to make grocery shopping more efficient and personalized. The platform is now organized by specific “shopping zones,” making it easier to navigate and manage your shopping list.
With Amazon’s aggressive push into the budget grocery segment, consumers stand to gain the most. Expect increased convenience, significant savings, and a seamless shopping experience—all from the comfort of your home. As the grocery store war intensifies, Amazon Saver looks set to deliver again for American families looking to get the most bang for their buck.
