DeSantis to offer $5k sign-on bonus to unvaccinated out-of-state police officers

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced his plan to sign legislation to give a $5,000 bonus to police officers who relocate to the Sunshine State for work.
“We’re actually actively working to recruit out-of-state law enforcement, because we do have needs in our police and our sheriff’s departments,” DeSantis said. “In the next legislative session I’m going to hopefully sign legislation that gives a $5,000 bonus to any out-of-state law enforcement that relocates in Florida.”
DeSantis went on to specifically reach out to dissatisfied officers in cities with strict vaccine mandates.
“So NYPD, Minneapolis, Seattle, if you’re not being treated well, we’ll treat you better here. You can fill important needs for us and we will compensate you as a result,” DeSantis said.
The Florida governor has been openly opposed to COVID-19 mandates, saying last week that he plans to call a special legislative session to protect residents against federal policies.
“We’re going to have a special session and we’re going to say nobody should lose their job based off these injections. It’s a choice you can make but we want to make sure we are protecting your jobs and your livelihood,” DeSantis said.
