January 1, Virginia Senator Charged in Staggering Pot Racketeering Scandal

Wyatt’s Take
- State Senator Louise Lucas faces serious federal charges over an alleged marijuana operation that authorities say crossed into racketeering territory.
- Lucas allegedly told investigators she had grown “too old to not be greedy,” a statement prosecutors are now using against her in court.
- The case raises fresh questions about whether political insiders have quietly built illegal cash empires while preaching tough-on-crime policies to regular folks.
Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas now stands accused of leading a marijuana trafficking ring that federal prosecutors say involved racketeering, money laundering, and distribution across state lines.
The charges, announced this week, paint a picture of a long-serving Democrat lawmaker who allegedly used her position to shield and grow a criminal enterprise.
Sources tell me that members of Sen. Louise Lucas’ family have already been arrested. Sen. Lucas was given until 9 am today to turn herself in. Press conference with the US AG and FBI director is at 10 am.

“I’ve got too old to not be greedy,” Lucas reportedly told investigators during questioning, according to court documents.
That statement has become a centerpiece of the prosecution’s narrative, which alleges Lucas and her associates operated a sophisticated pot network that funneled cash through legitimate businesses to avoid detection.
Federal agents claim the operation involved dozens of co-conspirators, multiple grow houses, and the use of political influence to block local law enforcement from cracking down.
Lucas has represented Portsmouth in the Virginia Senate since 1992 and has long positioned herself as a champion of working families and public safety.
Critics now say the charges expose a glaring double standard — one set of rules for everyday citizens and another for entrenched political figures who quietly profit from the very crimes they publicly condemn.
Supporters argue the case is politically motivated and insist Lucas will be vindicated in court.
Prosecutors, however, have signaled they plan to pursue the full weight of federal racketeering statutes, which carry decades in prison if convictions are secured.
Wyatt Matters
Middle America works hard, pays taxes, and expects leaders to live by the same laws they enforce on everyone else. When politicians get caught building secret empires, it’s not just about one case — it’s about whether trust in government can ever be restored.
