January 1, MELTDOWN at CBS: Veteran Anchor’s Epic Confrontation Exposes Media Empire in CHAOS

Wyatt’s Take

  • Scott Pelley just torched his own career at CBS after calling new boss Bari Weiss guilty of ‘murdering’ the legendary 60 Minutes — seems like he wanted to get fired.
  • The shake-up at CBS involves billionaire Trump supporters Larry and David Ellison buying the network, and suddenly the old liberal guard is being shown the door.
  • Left-wing media is screaming about ‘oligarchic takeovers’ while conservatives are celebrating the end of smug establishment anchors who looked down on working Americans.

Scott Pelley just went out in a blaze of glory — or stupidity, depending on who you ask. The longtime CBS anchor made absolutely sure he’d get fired from 60 Minutes, and the liberal media elite can’t decide if he’s a hero or a fool.

Let’s be honest here: Pelley wanted this fight. You don’t accuse your new editor-in-chief of “murdering” the show and expect to keep your job. You don’t tell your new boss he’s “minimally qualified” in front of the entire staff unless you’re handing them the pink slip yourself.

Bari Weiss, the new editor-in-chief who the left loves to hate (even though she’s really more of a moderate), tried to play damage control with the staff.

“There must be trust and mutual respect…That foundation was broken on Monday, and despite our attempts to engage with Scott Pelley and to find a way back, unfortunately we weren’t able to do so, and so we had to part ways.”

“We did not want that to happen, but that’s the path that he chose. That unfortunate outcome does not discount from the amazing contributions and work that Scott Pelley has done for CBS and for ’60 Minutes’ over the course of his career.”

The new producer, British journalist Nick Bilton, wasn’t so diplomatic. He fired back with a blistering letter that didn’t pull punches.

“You hijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt.”

He called Pelley’s tantrum a “performative display of hostility enacted in front of the staff.” Ouch.

For his part, Pelley claims the new management has been handling his stories “unethically.” But here’s where it gets really interesting for average Americans tired of the mainstream media’s bias.

President Trump weighed in, and he didn’t hold back with the New York Post.

“Look, Scott Pelley’s a stiff. And he’s afraid. And he’s part of this gang of stupid, crooked people that don’t care about our country.”

Now let’s zoom out and look at what’s really happening at CBS. Weiss has already fired correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, plus executive producer Tanya Simon. Anderson Cooper quit to run back to CNN full-time. Meanwhile, the CBS Evening News has been a ratings disaster under anchor Tony Dokoupil.

The left wants to paint Weiss as some crazy right-winger, but that’s not accurate. She’s actually a moderate liberal with some conservative-leaning views. The real problem for the establishment? She and Bilton are shaking things up at a network that’s been a liberal echo chamber for decades.

Here’s something the mainstream media doesn’t want you to know: 60 Minutes brings in $200 million in advertising revenue for CBS. Ratings are up 9 percent from last year. After 58 seasons, the show is averaging 9.1 million weekly viewers — pretty impressive in today’s world where everyone’s streaming.

So why the purge? Simple: new ownership with different priorities.

In a lengthy statement after his exit, Pelley painted himself as a martyr standing up for truth.

“Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience… For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified.”

“In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.”

Pelley really tried to play up his credentials, telling the New York Times he’s been “in combat” in Afghanistan and Iraq, risking his life for the broadcast. That brought him nothing but mockery, since he wasn’t actually in combat — that’s not what TV correspondents do. They report from war zones, sure, but they’re not soldiers.

The 68-year-old from Lubbock, Texas worked his way up through local TV before joining CBS in 1989. He’s won 51 Emmy Awards and always projected that sober, serious newsman image that the establishment loves.

But here’s the real story the mainstream media is burying: CBS was bought by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and his son David — both billionaire friends of President Trump. They threw a private dinner honoring Trump in April, and guess who attended? Bari Weiss, along with Norah O’Donnell and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Their company got the Trump administration’s approval to buy Warner Bros. Discovery in a massive deal. You think they spent billions without planning to make changes?

Some at CBS complained the dinner showed “excessive coziness” with the White House. Translation: they’re panicking because their liberal monopoly on network news is being challenged.

The reaction to this whole mess has been predictably divided. Liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow called it “sort of Hungarian, oligarchic-style takeover of the media.” Because everything’s authoritarian when it doesn’t go their way.

Tim Miller, an anti-Trump Republican, whined that “60 doesn’t have another Pelley in the pipeline talent-wise.” Liberal commentator Harry Sisson claimed Pelley was battling “right wing grifters.” Tommy Vietor, an Obama White House official, cracked: “Pelley seems to be attempting a murder/suicide. So far he’s halfway there.”

Meanwhile, conservatives are having a field day. Outkick founder Clay Travis nailed it.

“Scott Pelley has been fired by ’60 Minutes.’ Pelley will soon find out that no one else in media will come close to paying him millions a year to do a few stories a year. I think a lot of these old school TV guys are delusional about their market worth in today’s media.”

Newsmax host Rob Schmitt was even blunter.

“Scott Pelley was a mid talent with an ego the size of Jupiter. Adios.”

Steve Krakauer, Megyn Kelly’s producer, connected the dots.

“With Stephen Colbert and Scott Pelley now out the door at CBS, we’re seeing the systematic elimination of smug, old, straight, white guys who think they’re better than you.”

Pelley leaves in a storm of controversy, but don’t worry about him — he’ll land on his feet somewhere. Probably with a fat contract at some other liberal network eager to embrace him as a “hero” who stood up to the evil conservative takeover.

Wyatt Matters

For decades, network news anchors like Pelley looked down their noses at regular Americans, deciding what we should know and how we should think about it. Now that ownership is changing hands and new voices are being heard, the old guard is throwing tantrums and crying about “oligarchs.” The irony? These same people never complained when liberal billionaires owned the networks. This isn’t about journalism standards — it’s about power, control, and the establishment’s fear of losing their monopoly on truth. Working families across the heartland see right through it.

We the people who are sick and tired of the liberal media and never getting the real news. They need to realize that Americans are sick of the liberal take on everything. Don’t their rating show that we’re not watching anymore?

Rachel Madcow needs to be kicked off the air also. That is one strange, angry little man. I’m glad CBS is cleaning house but some of these others need to go away all together.
