Wyatt’s Take

  • TSA agents caught a deadly-looking claw weapon that looked like it belonged in a horror flick.
  • Everyday Americans rely on these officers to keep our airports safe from dangerous items.
  • Quick thinking at security stops threats before they reach the skies.

Security screeners at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport stopped a passenger carrying a set of blades that looked straight out of a scary movie. The officers saw three sharp claws on an X-ray and pulled the item from the carry-on bag.

“I saw three blades and distinct claw-like features,” Officer Douglas Linn said. “I was amazed, and even more so when it came out of the bag. I have never seen anything like this during my two years at TSA.”

“In my seven years with TSA, this is one of the most unusual items I have encountered,” said Supervisory TSA Officer Ann Rhoades. “My first thought was, ‘Oh my gosh,’ and my second thought was, ‘Is this what I think it is?’”

When asked if anything sharp was inside, the passenger said he was not sure. The object was still removed without trouble.

“Officers Linn and Oishi demonstrated the vigilance, teamwork and professionalism that define TSA’s mission every day,” said Robert Spinden, Seattle TSA’s federal security director. “Their actions prevented a prohibited item from moving beyond the checkpoint and reinforced the importance of careful screening, clear coordination and calm execution.”

“I’m proud of their attention to detail and their commitment to keeping the traveling public safe.”

Similar strange finds keep turning up at other airports, showing the job never gets boring for screeners who work to protect every flight.
