January 1, Klobuchar Scrambles as GOP Rival Vows Day-One Purge of Walz Cronies

Wyatt’s Take
- Demuth promises to fire every commissioner on day one and replace them with real experts who will stop the bleeding.
- Klobuchar calls the plan “absurd” while admitting she waited until after the scandal broke to call the feds.
- Voters now face a clear choice: rubber-stamp the old machine or clean house and protect Minnesota families from another round of waste.
Minnesota’s governor race turned into a bare-knuckle brawl over fraud and failed oversight as Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth promised to fire every state commissioner the day she takes office.
Demuth laid it out plain: the state has been bleeding taxpayer money for years while insiders looked the other way.
“Fraud unchecked here in the state of Minnesota has gone far too long, and it has finally come to the surface,” Demuth said.
“The thing that I will do on day one is I am going to be firing all commissioners, choosing new commissioners that are expert in their field, that will carry out the accountability and transparency that is needed in our state. We have to change the culture of fraud.”
Sen. Amy Klobuchar called the plan “absurd” and said she phoned U.S. Attorney Andy Luger after the scandal hit to request more prosecutors.
“He said, ‘I need more prosecutors’,” Klobuchar said. “I called the highest level of the Justice Department, and I got him those prosecutors.”
Klobuchar also claimed she would have caught the fraud sooner and criticized outgoing Gov. Tim Walz for not acting faster.
“Tim Walz should have caught the fraud earlier and he should have done more,” she said.
She tried to separate herself from Walz while still praising him as an “incredible governor” and warned voters not to elect “a rubber stamp of Donald Trump in the governor’s office.”
Demuth shot back that Klobuchar has yet to name a single policy where she would actually break from Walz.
The exchange leaves voters with a simple question: do they want more of the same insiders who let the fraud grow, or do they want leaders who will finally put working families first?
Wyatt Matters
Minnesota families work hard, pay their taxes, and expect the people they elect to guard that money like it was their own. When government officials treat fraud like business as usual, it’s time to clean house and put folks in charge who still know right from wrong.
