Wyatt’s Take

  • Justice finally catches up to the man behind Tupac’s killing
  • 40-year sentence sends clear message that murder won’t be forgotten
  • Case shows the streets and the courtroom can still work together

Duane “Keefe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, including a mandatory 20-year enhancement, after a Nevada court found him guilty in August of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur.

The sentencing closes a chapter that dragged on for nearly three decades.

Family members of the slain rapper watched from the gallery as the judge handed down the maximum term allowed under the plea deal.

“Justice has been served for Tupac and his family,” the prosecutor stated after the hearing.

Defense attorneys argued that Davis was not the shooter and only provided information under an immunity deal that later fell apart.

“This case proves no one is above the law, no matter how long it takes,” the judge said before gaveling the proceedings to a close.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America still believes that when someone takes a life, they should answer for it, no matter how many years pass or how famous the victim was.
