Wyatt’s Take

  • The Department of Justice is moving to bring back the ultimate punishment for the worst federal crimes.
  • Firing squads are returning to the federal execution protocol, with lethal injection rules also being updated.
  • The plan aims to speed up justice for victims and expand federal capacity for death penalty cases.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said previous leadership failed to protect Americans by refusing to carry out sentences against the most dangerous criminals.

He said the administration is once again standing with victims of heinous crimes.

“The prior administration failed in its duty to protect the American people by refusing to pursue and carry out the ultimate punishment against the most dangerous criminals, including terrorists, child murderers, and cop killers.”

President Trump previously issued an executive order declaring the death penalty an essential tool for deterring violence.

The new DOJ policy is designed to streamline internal processes and give families a faster sense of closure.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Justice is once again enforcing the law and standing with victims.”

Five states already permit firing squads under specific conditions, and federal officials may expand death row capacity for similar cases.
