January 1, No More Serious Impeachment Talks Will Be Coming From Capitol Hill
We shouldn’t expect to hear any more serious talk about impeachment coming from Capitol Hill. By most accounts, yesterday’s testimony by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller was an unmitigated disaster. If you saw President Trump at the White House yesterday, you could tell he had a little more spring in his step. We have some insight on the White House’s reaction to Mueller’s “very painful’ hearing in today’s brief. Also, read about renewed scrutiny of comment’s Rep. Ihan Omar made last year when she said America should be “more fearful of white men”. Puerto Rico’s governor has finally resigned, Jeffrey Epstein may have tried to commit suicide in jail, Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff wants President Trump to reduce his sentence, and according to several scientists, July is going to be the hottest month ever.
Trump Celebrates Mueller’s ‘Very Painful’ Performance
Politico.com characterized Mueller’s performance as flat, saying he offered “clipped, monosyllabic responses and repeatedly asked lawmakers to repeat their questions.” One source described the reaction in the White House to the hearings as one of “euphoria.”
Ilhan Omar Said Americans Should Be ‘More Fearful of White Men’
In a resurfaced interview, Rep. Ihan Omar told Al Jazeera, “I would say our country should be more fearful of white men across our country because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country,” she replied.
“And so if fear was the driving force of policies to keep America safe… “we should be profiling, monitoring, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of white men.”
Rep. Omar’s comments from 2018 are getting new attention, because of an op-ed piece the Congresswoman wrote in the New York Times this week titled “It Is Not Enough to Condemn Trump’s Racism”.
Puerto Rico’s Governor Resigns
The Miami Herald Reports , “…after days of strident insistence that he would serve out his term, Gov. Ricky Rosselló went quietly — announcing his decision in a live stream on his administration’s Facebook page — at the end of a speech long on his government’s accomplishments.”
Rosselló said he would stay in his position until Aug. 2 when Puerto Rico Secretary of Justice Wanda Vazquez would take over as governor.
Jeffrey Epstein Found Injured in Jail Cell After Possible Suicide Attempt
Two sources tell NBC New York that Epstein may have tried to hang himself, while a third source cautioned that the injuries were not serious and questioned if Epstein might be using it as a way to get a transfer.
Bernie Madoff Asks Trump to Reduce His Prison Sentence
Madoff, who pleaded guilty to 11 crimes in 2009, is not asking for a pardon from the president.
Instead, he is requesting clemency from Trump in the form of a sentence commutation, or reduction, according to an application filed with the Justice Department.
Read more about Madoff’s request for a reduced sentence from CNBC.
Scientists: July Will Be Hottest Month Ever
July will be the hottest month ever recorded, climate scientists said on Wednesday, the USA Today reported.
According to data from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), nine of the 10 warmest years since record taking began in 1880 have taken place this century.
