January 1, Erika Kirk Slams Cruelty Over Husband’s Killing
Wyatt’s Take
- Erika Kirk called out people who cheered her husband’s murder.
- She wants dignity and respect for her late husband, Charlie Kirk.
- Some universities are acting against those mocking his death.
Erika Kirk spoke out sharply against anyone who celebrated or excused the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk. She was responding to the hurtful words and actions circulating since his death at a campus event in Utah last September.
“You’re sick. He’s a human being. You think he deserved that? Tell that to my 3-year-old daughter,” she said during a preview of a town hall conversation. Erika was addressing people justifying or celebrating her husband’s killing.
Erika also said, “You want to watch, in high-res, the video of my husband being murdered and laugh, and say he deserves it? There’s something very sick in your soul. And I pray that God saves you. I pray, because that is what is so wrong.” She stressed that online hatred and cruelty have dehumanized people.
Across the country, there have been several incidents of people mocking or making light of Kirk’s assassination. Less than a week after he was killed, a Clemson student mocked the event on video, while an 18-year-old from Texas Tech was arrested and expelled after disturbing comments at a vigil.
Erika isn’t just facing ridicule, but also conspiracy theories about her husband’s death. She said during a TV interview that she and her family are staying focused on rebuilding and honoring Charlie Kirk’s legacy, not addressing unfounded rumors.
“Can I have one thing? Can my children have one thing?” she pleaded, asking for a safe and sacred memorial for her husband at Turning Point USA, free from those who would disrespect his memory. She wants that place to be protected for her children and his supporters.
She made it clear that silence in the face of vicious speculation does not mean acceptance or guilt. “My silence does not mean that I am complacent. My silence does not mean that somehow Turning Point USA and all of the hand-picked staff that loved my husband and my husband loved them is somehow in on it. We are busy building,” she said.
An attendee held up a sign reading “Never Surrender” ahead of the memorial service, showing there is still strong support for the Kirk family.
Universities are now starting to crack down on staff or students who publicly defend or celebrate Kirk’s death online. The complete town hall conversation with Erika Kirk is set to air on Saturday.
